Shri Manan Free Discus Institute located at Jharia Koiri Dam in Dhanbad district has today become a ray of hope for the students of needy and middle class families. At present, about 600 students in this institute are preparing for free for many competitive examinations including JPSC, BPSC, SSC, Railways, Banking etc. The students coming here spend 6 to 7 hours daily in studies and group discussions.
The objective of the institute is clear that no student should be deprived of education and competitive examinations due to lack of money. With this thought in mind, Shri Manan Discus Center was established. So that financially weak but talented students can realize their dreams. Isha Kumari, a student associated with the institute, told that she is a resident of Mukund Mod. He studied from class 1 to 10 in the same high school. Isha has been associated with Shri Manan Free Discus Institute for some time. His dream is to get a government job by passing Railway and SSC exams. After studying for 4 to 5 hours every day in the institute, Isha also does self-study for about 6 hours at home.

Shri Manan Free Discus Institute has been awakening the flame of education in Jharia Number 4 and Koeri Dam area for the last 17 years. Till now, about 300 to 350 students from this institute have achieved success in competitive examinations and are working in government services in different states of the country. These include employees of many departments including Bank of India, Railways, Post Office. Many successful students stay connected with the institute along with their job for further preparation and guidance of juniors. The story of Manjay Pathak, the founder of this institute, is also a source of inspiration for the students. Has done more than 20 jobs till now and is currently posted in the Secretariat of Bihar Government. Despite this, whenever he gets a Saturday-Sunday or holiday, he comes to Jharia and teaches the children himself. Manjay Pathak says that when he came to Jharia as a manager in the Life Insurance Corporation of India, he realized that there is no dearth of talent in this coalfield, only the right guidance is needed.

Manjay Pathak, originally a resident of Sasaram, did his primary education from Sasaram and further studies from the college there. Staying in Patna, he prepared for competitive examinations. After coming to Jharia, the idea of opening a free discus center came to her mind, so that students of every section can get free education. Lakshmi Kumari, a student associated with the institute, says that she saw her uncle getting a job after preparing from this institute, which inspired her to also start studying here. Lakshmi has passed the NTPC exam and now the result is awaited. Besides, she is busy preparing for Bihar Secretariat. His dream is to get further and higher education by getting selected in any government service.
There are about 50 teachers from Discus Center
Railway employee Prashant Kumar told that he prepared for a year at Shri Manan Discus Center and after achieving success in NTPC exam, today he is working at the railway station in Adra division. Even today, whenever he gets time from duty, he comes to the institute and holds group discussions and clears doubts with the students. At present, about 50 teachers are associated with Shri Manan Free Discuss Centre, out of which 20 teachers are actively teaching. These include 50 percent women and 50 percent men. The biggest feature of the institute is that as soon as the senior students get the job, they hand over the responsibility to the juniors and continue the guidance. The center located at Jharia number four operates from 5 am to 10 am, while the Koeri Dam center is open from 5 pm to 11 pm. Not only Jharia, but students from areas like Digwadih, Bhaga, Phusbangla, Mukund Mod, Ghanudih and Lodna are also coming here and preparing.
