Gonda Tharu Baba Temple: This temple of Gonda is famous by the name Tharu Baba. Apart from Gonda, devotees from Bahraich, Balrampur and Shravasti also come here. This place is especially crowded on Mondays and Fridays. Apart from Hindus, people of Muslim religion also have deep faith in Tharu Baba. They have been coming here for generations with their wishes. People are surprised to know about this temple located in Gram Sabha Lalnagar Kahala. Its name is Tharu Baba Temple. The method of worship here is completely different from other temples. In this temple, liquor and egg are offered to the Lord as Prasad. Talking to Local 18, temple priest Vinay Kumar Mishra says that Tharu Baba was a perfect man. It is said that he lived in the forests and practiced Tantra. His lifestyle was different from that of common saints. It is believed that Tharu Baba used to consume alcohol and eggs, hence even today devotees offer only the things of his choice as Prasad. Apart from liquor and eggs, sweets and fruits are offered here as Prasad.
Why were two pindis made?
Priest Vinay Kumar Mishra says that a new Pindi has been constructed by the villagers because Ramayana recitation and the story of Satyanarayan also used to take place at this place. The villagers thought that if a pindi was built outside, liquor and eggs should be offered there. This has been happening since then till today.
Why does alcohol and egg rise?
Vinay Kumar Mishra says that no one knows why liquor and egg are offered. This tradition has been going on for years. Our ancestors also used to say that eggs and liquor are offered here as Prasad. People believe that if the wish is fulfilled then they will offer eggs and liquor. After completion, people come and offer eggs and liquor. Villager Ramdayal Verma says that no one knows how old Pindi is, but it is considered to be around 300 to 400 years old.
Is it Hindu or Muslim?
According to villager Prabhakar Mishra, our ancestors used to tell stories about this temple that there is a place outside the village, which is known by the name of Tharu Baba, but no one knows how old this tradition is and how long it has been going on. Apart from Gonda, devotees come to Tharu Baba’s place from Bahraich, Balrampur, Shravasti. There is a special crowd on Monday and Friday. People of Muslim religion also come.
