Rishikesh: Period cramps that occur every month are a common but painful problem for women. In this, severe pain in the lower abdomen, stiffness in the waist, fatigue, irritability and sometimes even nausea is felt. Many women consider it their compulsion to bear this pain, whereas in Ayurveda, remedies have been suggested to cure it from the root. Ayurveda not only reduces pain, but also helps in making periods regular and smooth by correcting the imbalance within the body.
Reasons for periods cramps according to Ayurveda
During a conversation with Local 18, Dr. Rajkumar (Ayush) said that according to Ayurveda, pain during periods is mainly due to the imbalance of Vata dosha. Vata dosha controls movement and flow in the body. When Vata is unbalanced, contractions in the uterine muscles increase, causing severe pain. Cold food, irregular daily routine, excess stress, lack of sleep and excessive caffeine intake aggravate Vata dosha. This is the reason why the problem of periods cramps is more common in today’s lifestyle.
Home remedy of celery and jaggery
Consumption of celery and jaggery is considered very effective for periods pain in Ayurveda. Ajwain balances vata and kapha, while jaggery warms the body and improves blood flow. Taking half a teaspoon of celery with jaggery one or two days before periods reduces stomach cramps. This remedy also removes the problem of gas and bloating.
Massage with hot water and sesame oil
Drinking hot water during periods is a simple but effective solution. It reduces the cold accumulated inside the body and relaxes the muscles. Along with this, lightly massaging the lower abdomen and waist with sesame oil provides great relief from pain. Sesame oil pacifies Vata dosha and improves blood circulation in the uterus. Massaging before sleeping at night is considered more beneficial.
Benefits of Ashoka bark and asparagus
In Ayurveda, Ashoka bark is considered like nectar for women. Drinking the decoction of Ashoka bark reduces pain, excessive bleeding and weakness during periods. At the same time, asparagus plays an important role in hormonal balance. It not only reduces period pain, but is also considered helpful in regularizing periods and improving reproductive health. It is better to consume both of these with the advice of an Ayurvedic doctor.
Natural relief from yoga and pranayam
Light yogasanas and pranayam are very helpful in period cramps. Asanas like Bhujangasana, Balasana and Supta Baddha Konasana reduce stiffness in the lower abdomen. Anulom Vilom and Bhramari Pranayam reduce stress, which also reduces the intensity of pain. Regular practice of yoga strengthens the body and the pain that occurs every month gradually starts reducing.
