The results of Zilla Parishad and Block Committee elections in Punjab will be clear shortly today. The counting of votes has started here from 8 am in the morning, on which the eyes of the entire state are fixed. These elections are being considered an important contest to decide the direction of rural politics.
This time, elections were held for a total of 2682 seats of Block Committee and 342 seats of District Council in Punjab. 8314 candidates were in the fray for the Block Committee seats, while 1265 candidates tried their luck for the Zilla Parishad seats. In this way, a total of 9579 candidates contested the elections in both the elections. Of these, 196 candidates were elected unopposed and won without voting.
A total of 48 percent voting was recorded in the voting held on Sunday. According to the State Election Commission, tense situations were seen at many places during voting. There was stone pelting and clashes between workers of political parties in some areas, but there was no news of loss of life or property anywhere.
