Meerut News: The 1971 war between India and Pakistan started on 3 December and lasted for 13 days. India defeated Pakistan on 16th December and hence every year this day is celebrated as Victory Day. Today, on Vijay Diwas, let us tell you about a person who played an important role in the war.
Meerut: Today is Victory Day, because on 16 December 1971, Pakistan had come to its knees in front of the Indian Army. That day, approximately 94,000 Pakistani soldiers stood in front of the Indian Lions with their eyes lowered and hands raised. There are many stories of bravery of Indian soldiers in the 1971 war and one of these stories is of Brigadier Ranveer Singh, a resident of Meerut, who was a Major at that time.
Brigadier Ranveer Singh, now 92, was posted in the Maratha Regiment during the 1971 war. Ranveer Singh ji tells that after the beginning of the war on 3 December 1971, his team buried 54 Pakistani soldiers in their bunker on 6 December. During the war, one of his hands was injured in a grenade attack and he was treated for almost a year.
ready to go to the border even today
Brigadier Ranveer Singh ji, remembering this war even today, says that his enthusiasm during that period of war was so much that even at the age of 92, he was ready to go to the border. He was honored in 1972 by the then President V.V. Was awarded Vir Chakra on Giri’s behalf. Apart from this, President Giani Zail Singh also honored him with the Vishisht Seva Medal. Remembering that period, a new sparkle appears in his eyes.
wife always supported
Brigadier’s wife Chandra Singh recalls that period and says that when she got the information that her husband was injured in the war, it was the most difficult time of her life. At that time he had been married for only a few years and had two daughters. Chandra Singh ji tells that she always supported Brigadier Ranveer Singh ji by standing with him with hard work and courage. Today, they have been married for 62 years and Chandra ji is 83 years old, but both of them still talk about the 1971 war as if it was yesterday.
