Similarly, a more than 200 years old church is also present in the Civil Line area of Azamgarh district, this church is a holy place and the main center of faith for the people following Christianity in Azamgarh district, which reflects the history of all religions of Azamgarh district.
Was constructed in 1843
According to the information, this church was established on 7 December 1843 by the Bishop of Kolkata, this almost 200 year old building of faith is not only one of the main centers of the ancient history of Azamgarh, but it also remains an identity of the district. But the story of this church is not like any ordinary religious place, rather the most special thing about this church is the purpose behind its construction.
Sanjay David, who is looking after this church, says that after its construction, this church was not available for any common people, rather it was used only by the British military guards and big administrative officers of the British at that time.
Indians had ‘no entry’
During the British rule, this church was specially built for the soldiers and officers engaged in the work related to the welfare and security arrangements. Sanjay David tells that at that time no Indian citizen had entry into this church. In this, Indians of any religion, even if they were Christians, were not allowed to enter this church. The use of this place for praying to God was limited only to military personnel and probably to people of the British community. However, at present the doors of this church are open to people of all religions and every year on the occasion of Christmas, there is a fair like atmosphere here and a large number of people come here to celebrate Christmas.
