Monday was far from magical under the lights of Ibrox. Much more: do the work and move on.
But the Rangers will rightly take it all day for now.
For much of the first half they were second best behind a Hibs team that burst out of the traps before panicking at the sight of the final third.
David Gray’s team built from the back in abundance, exploiting the swaths of space their hosts allowed them in midfield, but pulled the handbrake against a Rangers defense that was there to be tested.
It was “the theme of the night” that frustrated Gray, who was looking to guide Hibs to back-to-back league wins at Govan for the first time since 2018, but something the Ibrox team took advantage of.
When Emmanuel Fernández took advantage of a sublime cross from Dujon Sterling, it was an action completely contrary to the development of the game.
It didn’t light a spark in the Rangers’ ranks, but it gave them something to protect, which they ended up doing with relatively little fuss.
“It wasn’t always the best football, but we are finding a way to win games,” Rohl told BBC Scotland after his team recorded its fifth clean sheet.
“I would like us to be more clinical. I’m happy with the points but of course we have to improve. It’s step by step and for me it’s about winning games.
“The victory was deserved, we didn’t play every moment of the game where you think ‘this is incredible’, but with a clean sheet and being clinical in the moment, you deserve to win.”
