Faridabad: Pollution in Delhi-NCR has once again started taking a toll on people’s breath. With the onset of winter, the air has started getting poisoned and cities like Faridabad and Gurugram are facing its biggest brunt. Burning eyes, sore throat and difficulty in breathing have become common after waking up in the morning. There is a blanket of smog on the roads which is affecting not only health but also traffic.
Talking about Faridabad, the situation here is very worrying. The Air Quality Index (AQI) in different sectors of the city has been recorded in the range from hazardous to very poor. In many areas the AQI has crossed 350 while in some sectors it has reached above 795. Especially the situation is said to be worst in Sector 16A and Sector 16, where AQI-700 has been recorded. Its direct impact is visible on the common people. It has become difficult for children, elderly people and people suffering from respiratory diseases to get out of the house.
The situation is also not better in Ballabhgarh area of Faridabad. At around 9 am, AQI was recorded around 240 which falls in the poor to very poor category. Experts believe that the level of pollution may increase as the day progresses because due to increase in the number of vehicles and decrease in wind speed, the pollutants remain trapped in the air.
Even in Gurugram the air cannot be called clean. Here AQI has been recorded from 200 to 433 which falls in the bad to dangerous category. The level of pollution varies greatly in different areas. In areas like DLF Phase-1, AQI has crossed 500 while some areas like Sector 54 are said to be relatively less polluted. Despite this, the average AQI of the entire city has been recorded between 241 to 277, which falls in the very poor category.
Advice on leaving the house wearing a mask
Due to increasing pollution, people are being advised to wear masks, stay indoors and avoid unnecessary going out. This situation has become very difficult for school going children and office going people. It is clear that if concrete steps are not taken soon, the situation may become even more serious in the coming days.
