Dhanbad News: Jhamada SDO Sachin Jha said about this problem that in the cold season, the algae growing in the lower part of the river flows with water and reaches the intake valve. This grass accumulates in the valve’s foot, obstructing the flow of water.
Due to repeated algae grass getting stuck in the intake system supplying water from Damodar River, the water supply of Jharia and Putki areas is being badly affected. The situation is such that due to algae coming from the river, the footballs fitted in the intake valves are getting jammed every two hours. In such a situation, the workers of Jhamada Jharkhand Mines Area Development Authority have to stop the pump and do the cleaning. When the cleaning is done, the water supply remains completely stopped. This technical problem is directly affecting the population of about 8 lakhs in Jharia and Putki areas, who are not getting water as per their requirement.
Regarding this problem, Jhamada SDO Sachin Jha said that during the cold season, the algae growing in the lower part of the river flows with water and reaches the intake valve. This grass accumulates in the valve’s foot, obstructing the flow of water and causing the water supply to stop. To deal with this problem, a new intake well has now been constructed. In which water will be taken to the intake valve through direct strainer. This will significantly improve the water supply system.
Water supply crisis deepens in cold weather
The SDO said that with the introduction of the new intake well and water purification system, algae grass will no longer get stuck in the football and disrupt the water supply. With this, people will be able to get water smoothly from time to time and this is going to happen every year during the cold season. You will get relief from this problem. Algae grass is a long grass that grows on the bottom surface of water during cold weather. When water is drawn from Damodar River. So this algae flows and reaches the intake system. It starts accumulating there. Due to this, water supply reduces and in many areas water is not available for hours. The water supply crisis in Jharia and Putki areas worsens every year during the winter season. For a permanent solution to this problem, Jhamada had long ago planned to install mesh screens on the intakes, so that algae and garbage cannot enter inside. This plan could not come out on paper till now and the work could not start. Now with the construction of the new intake well, people are hopeful that in the coming time the water supply system will be better than before and they will not have to face water shortage even in the cold season.
what is algae grass
Algae grass is a type of aquatic vegetation that grows on the bottom surface of rivers and ponds during cold weather. It is like long and thin grass, which gets easily pulled with the flow of water. This grass reaches water supply systems and jams valves and pipelines. Due to which the water supply gets disrupted.
