Baghpat: A serious problem has arisen before the farmers in Baghpat district of UP. The situation has become such that earlier farmers used to go home at night after working in their fields, but now they avoid going home at night, the reason being the continuous theft from tube wells, which has taken away both sleep and peace of the farmers.
The incidents of theft have increased
Farmers say that thieves steal motors, cables, pipes and other valuable equipment from tube wells at night. In the morning, when farmers reach the fields to work, they find the locks on the tube wells broken and goods missing. Despite repeated complaints, no concrete action has been taken and the thieves are becoming more emboldened.
Demand for strict action against thieves
Farmer Satveer said that theft of equipment from tube wells has now become a common thing. Apart from theft, other goods kept in the fields are also not safe. He said that due to lack of action despite continuous complaints, thieves have become active in the forests. Farmers demand that strict action should be taken against the thieves, so that they do not dare to commit such acts again.
Police should increase patrolling
Farmer Ramveer said that farmers are facing huge losses due to increasing incidents of theft. Both time and money are being wasted. He demanded from the police that regular patrolling should be done at night and strict vigil should be kept on suspicious people wandering towards the forest.

The situation is such that farmers are now forced to form groups and guard their fields at night and stand guard at tube wells. This is not only affecting their daily routine, but is also creating an atmosphere of fear and tension.
