Chandanaki village, with a population of about one thousand, is famous for its unique lifestyle. Food is not cooked separately in any house here. Every day, food is prepared for the entire village in the collective kitchen and everyone sits together and eats there. This is not just a food arrangement, but a unique symbol of mutual brotherhood, love and social unity.
The elders of the village say that this tradition started when many youth started settling in cities and foreign countries for jobs and business years ago. It became difficult for the elders left behind to prepare separate meals in each house. In such a situation, the village started the arrangement of collective kitchen. Initially it was just a necessity, but with time it became a routine for the entire village. Even today, around 100 villagers work together to prepare pulses, vegetables and rotis every day, so that no one person has too much responsibility. Delicious dishes are also prepared on special occasions, which everyone shares with joy.
This tradition of Chandanaki has now become a center of attraction for tourists also. People coming from outside are warmly welcomed by the villagers and they are also served food from the communal kitchen.
