Sitamarhi: The government is making tall claims to promote AYUSH system and provide affordable and accessible health services to the common people. But the city’s Government Ayurvedic Hospital seems to be exposing these claims. The condition of this hospital adjacent to Madhyam Gudri market is getting worse day by day. Every day, patients who arrive with the hope of treatment find the place locked and have to return without treatment. The hospital is under the grip of encroachment, but neither the administration nor the health department seems serious about it.
The condition of the hospital is such that the presence of doctors and staff here is almost negligible. According to local people, the hospital opens only two days a week. The place remains locked during the rest of the days. The surprising thing is that the keys of the hospital also remain with the local people and powerful people instead of the employees. This not only exposes the negligence of the government system, but also raises questions on the dignity and safety of the hospital. Patients keep searching for doctors and return disappointed.
Recently, the hospital building was painted and painted, but no steps were taken towards removing the basic problem i.e. encroachment. Vehicles of local businessmen are parked in the hospital premises. People even keep their personal belongings there. There is a lot of filth all around, which causes a lot of trouble to the patients. It is said that mostly poor patients come here for treatment, whose number used to be more than 50 per day, but due to the chaos, now the number of patients is continuously decreasing.
There is deep anger among the local people regarding this situation. Santosh Kumar says that earlier there used to be a crowd of patients in the hospital and medicines were also available, but now the facilities are missing. Arun Kumar Saraogi and Rajesh Kumar say that doctors and workers come occasionally only to supply food. On receiving information about the case, District Magistrate Richie Pandey said that he got information about it through media and soon investigation will be done and appropriate action will be taken against the culprits. Now it remains to be seen when this assurance turns into reality.
