Hyderabad: ‘Cake mixing’, the tradition of making Christmas cake in Hyderabad, is a symbol of community togetherness. In early December, families and bakeries prepare the concoction by mixing dried fruits, spices and alcoholic beverages (or fruit juices). This mixture later becomes the base for plum cake and fruit cake, which are shared as gifts at Christmas. This tradition has come to India since the Victorian era.
