There are more than 350 species of snakes in India. But the world’s most poisonous snakes like King Cobra, Common Krait, Russell’s Viper and Banded Krait are found in Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) of Bihar. These snakes are considered the most dangerous not only in Asia but globally. VTR is their important refuge.
Although more than 350 species of snakes are found in India, but today we are going to tell you about such snakes found in some other areas including Bihar’s only tiger reserve, Valmiki. Which are counted among the most poisonous snakes not only in Asia but also in the world.
Abhishek, an expert who has been working on wildlife for almost 26 years, says that the world’s largest poisonous snake ‘King Cobra’ is found in abundance in Valmiki Tiger Reserve. Its poison is so deadly that it can easily kill 20 people in one bite.
After King Cobra, now comes the turn of Spectacled Cobra i.e. ‘Gehunvan’. This is a snake which is considered responsible for most of the deaths due to snake bites in India. Like the King Cobra, it is also counted among the most poisonous snakes in the world.

Common Krait, also known as Yamraj, is also found in abundance in the forests of VTR. Their venom is so deadly that the victim’s chances of survival after the bite become almost negligible. The most frightening thing about this snake is that the victim does not even realize its bite.
Russell’s Viper is definitely counted among the most poisonous snakes in the world. Hemotoxic poison is found in them, which starts converting into clot as soon as it gets mixed in the blood. As a result, the body starts bursting at many places and blood pressure starts increasing uncontrollably. Due to this, the victim dies a painful death due to cardiac arrest, brain hemorrhage and kidney failure.
The name of Saw Scaled Viper is also included among the most poisonous snakes found in Bihar. This is a species of viper, which is responsible for most of the bites and deaths in India. Like cobra, krait, and Russell’s viper, they have also been placed in the list of India’s most poisonous snakes and are responsible for a lot of deaths, called ‘Big Four’.
The banded krait, which belongs to the krait family, is also equipped with a very deadly neurotoxic venom like the common krait. The intensity of their poison is so strong that if treatment is not received as soon as possible, the victim’s death is certain. Like the other snakes mentioned, the presence of Banded Krait has also been recorded in Bihar. However, they have not been seen in many parts of the state.
