Jinnat in Islam: Ghost-demon, devil-witch or jinn-jinnat are such words which you must have heard at some time or the other from movies to elders. Many people claim to have them under control. Not only this, they have even been seen talking about getting their work done, but can this really happen? Can a genie be kept in a bottle?
Aligarh. Stories, claims and rumors related to ghosts and jinn have been prevalent among a large section of the society for centuries. Many people in Muslim society claim to have talked to Jinnah, got their work done or made deals with them, but what is the reality of these claims and how does Islam view these matters? To know the answers to these questions, Local 18 spoke to Aligarh’s Shahi Chief Mufti of Uttar Pradesh Maulana Chaudhary Ifrahim Hussain. Maulana Chaudhary Ifrahim explains that both humans and jinn are creations of Allah, but it is not possible for a common man to talk to jinn directly or get any work done from them.

According to the Islamic view, jinn see humans, but humans cannot see them. According to Maulana, Allah had given special power to Hazrat Suleman, due to which the Jinn were under his control and used to talk to him. But this was a special matter, not within the reach of a common man. Some people, in order to deceive, claim that they talk to Jinnah or that Jinnah does the work as per their instructions, but there is no truth in such things. Jinn often resort to deception to mislead humans, and Satan is an open enemy of humans.

Maulana Ifrahim explains that it is impossible to control Jinnat or make them work through any kind of study, talisman or action. Jinn cannot be permanently subjugated by humans. Whatever such claims are made, they are only part of deception, illusion and misleading. It is often said that jinn make deals with humans, but according to Maulana, this is also just a rumour. Due to the increasing number of evils and misunderstandings, people are quick to accept such things, whereas in reality these claims have no basis.
