Bulandshahr: These days, news is continuously coming out about not taking dowry in different districts of Uttar Pradesh. In this series, Bulandshahr’s groom Vivek, presenting an inspiring example against the dowry system prevalent in the society in Bulandshahr district, flatly refused to take dowry in his marriage. The special thing was that Vivek placed the Rs 51 lakh cash given by the bride’s side on his forehead and respectfully returned it to his family and completed the marriage by accepting just a silver coin.

This dowry-free marriage was a follow-up to the decision of the Sarva Khap Panchayat held in Soram, Muzaffarnagar, in which the Khap chieftains had appealed to the Jat community to marry without dowry and not to have death feasts. After the decision of Sarva Khap, a positive atmosphere is being created in the society, under which this marriage proved to be an example. This unique marriage of bride Krishna from Mathura and groom Vivek from Bulandshahr took place in a simple manner in a private marriage home located on Meerut Road in Gulavathi Kotwali police station area.

The people attending the program highly appreciated this step of the groom and called it a big step towards positive change in the society. The bride’s family became emotional due to Vivek’s decision. People of the society also encouraged this initiative and said that if such marriages increase, then the dowry system can automatically end. The groom’s brother Mantu Chaudhary said that the family had resolved not to take dowry while respecting the decision of the Sarva Khap Panchayat. Vivek has set an example for the society and it is hoped that other families will also take inspiration from this initiative.
