Agriculture News: Kisan of India Samman 2025 was organized on a grand scale in Delhi. In this event, famous fish farmer Shiv Prasad Sahni of Mohammadpur village of Bhagwanpur Haat block of Siwan district was also awarded the prestigious honour.
‘Kisan of India Samman 2025’ was organized grandly in Delhi. This event has been dedicated to those farmers. Who have given new dimensions to farming through innovation, entrepreneurship and new technologies in traditional agricultural methods. Among the selected farmers from across the country, Shiv Prasad Sahni, a famous fish farmer from Mohammadpur village of Bhagwanpur Haat block of Siwan district of Bihar, was also awarded the prestigious honour. In view of his innovative work and large-scale expansion in the field of fisheries, he was given the honor of ‘Farmer of India 2025’.
Shiv Prasad Sahni started fish farming in the year 2000 by converting his two lands (about 90 bighas) of barren land into pond area. This land was not fit for cultivation, but Sahni did not give up. With his resources and efforts he transformed the entire area into a structure conducive to fish production. He wrote a new story of fish production by digging more than 50 ponds. This not only strengthened their economic condition but also proved to be a successful model for other farmers of the area.
Production of 90 quintal fish seeds every year
Sahni told Local 18 that in his initial days his annual income was only Rs 75,000. Amidst limited resources, he adopted fishing, but with the help of innovation and hard work, he established this business on a large scale. At present his turnover has reached Rs. crores, which is the result of his struggle, foresight and scientific approach. Today, Shiv Prasad Sahni has expertise in preparing fingerlings of many species of fish. Every year they produce about 90 quintals of fish seed, which is supplied not only to Bihar but also to the surrounding states. His model has become an inspiration for fish farmers today. Sahni said that by adopting innovation in fish farming, production has increased manifold. He paid special attention to pond construction, scientific technology, quality feed, water management and selection of better species. Due to these he was able to become a successful and established entrepreneur in this field.
Respect is a matter of pride for me
Sharing his happiness after receiving the honour, Shiv Prasad Sahni said that this honor is a matter of pride for me. This provides new energy and inspiration to work better. With the cooperation of government and agricultural institutions, the fisheries sector is reaching new heights. Such national level honors not only honor hardworking farmers but also promote the use of new technologies. Sahni wants that young farmers should also adopt modern agricultural models like fisheries, so that new opportunities of employment and income can be developed. He also said that if proper training, technology and management are adopted, fisheries can become a sector that can give new strength to the rural economy.

This event of Farmers of India 2025 was organized with the aim of promoting innovation in farming. Farmers like Sahni have proved that if even barren land is used scientifically then production worth crores of rupees is possible.
