Patna: Police in Bihar has come into action mode. The biggest joint action against illegal sand mining is underway. In these four hotspot police station areas of Maner, Bihta, Rani Talab and Paliganj, teams of police, mining department and Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) are maintaining a 24×7 front. On June 26, 2025, the biggest action so far was taken by EOU in Maner and Bihta. About 85,670 CFT sand was seized by raids in the entire belt of Amanabad, Suarmarwa and Son river banks, which is equivalent to about 400 trucks. Now the vigorous action of EOU is going on against the robbers of sand called yellow gold.
EOU’s high-profile operation
DIG Manoj Kumar Singh has formed a special task force. The team is busy getting to the root of illegal mining. This team is not only conducting raids on the sand mafia, but is also running a mission to destroy their entire economic system. In 2023, STF caught 20 smugglers and seized 40 boats. In 2024, 54 smugglers were arrested, big machines were seized. So far in 2025, many big raids have taken place, in which armed gangs also came to the fore. In the operation of 24 August 2025, AK-47, rifle and 160 cartridges were recovered from Amanabad. There were many attacks on the police team, in which a Saif jawan was killed in the bride market.
Government’s strict stance on sand excavation
According to the Mining Department, more than 33 thousand raids took place in the entire state in 2024–25. 10,702 vehicles were seized and a fine of ₹136 crore was imposed. The government has decided to strengthen the system by e-auctioning 148 sand ghats in Patna district in 2025. On the matter, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha had clearly said that – “Illegal sand mining will not be tolerated. Those giving information will get a reward of Rs 10,000.”
action continues
Patna district is now the main front of this fight. Continued major seizures, recovery of weapons, and financial crackdown on mafia networks show that the government is now in a decisive battle. This is not just an action to stop mining, but the biggest campaign towards eliminating the entire ‘Yellow Gold Syndicate’.
