who is IAS K Senthil Kumar: The name of this IAS officer from Bihar is K. Senthil Kumar. He is originally from Tamil Nadu. K. Senthil Kumar was born in Tamil Nadu on 1 May 1969 in an ordinary family. I was inclined towards engineering since childhood. After his early education, Senthil did BE in Electrical Engineering and then did ME degree in Power Systems Engineering. He did BE degree in Electrical Engineering, then completed ME in Power Systems Engineering. Always remain first in studies.
After this he passed the Civil Services Examination (UPSC CSE) of the Public Service Commission in 1995. He became an IAS officer in 1996. He was allotted Bihar cadre which was far away from Tamil Nadu, but Senthil considered it a challenge. In his initial postings, he worked in departments like health, labor resources, education. Being fluent in English and Tamil, there was never any problem in reports and meetings. At the beginning of his career, Munger rose from DM to Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner, but from here onwards his life became shadow of scams.
What were the allegations against K. Senthil Kumar?
K. Senthil Kumar’s name first came into limelight in 2010-11 when he was accused of serious corruption while being the Commissioner of Patna Municipal Corporation. The Vigilance Investigation Bureau filed a charge sheet in which it was said that he committed a scam worth crores of rupees in the matters of purchase of cleaning machine, hoarding allotment and passing of map. The state suffered a loss of Rs 8.76 crore due to irregularities. More than 130 building maps were passed without checking the rules. He remained suspended from June 2011 to March 2014 i.e. for almost 3 years. During this time, he filed a petition in the Patna High Court, but in 2012 the court rejected this petition. ED registered a case under the Money Laundering Act in 2012. In 2018, ED seized property worth Rs 2.5 crore of K. Senthil Kumar. In August 2022, ED filed a charge sheet when he was Secretary in the Health Department. Many of his other people were made accused in this.
Why is IAS K. Senthil Kumar in discussion now?
The career of Bihar cadre IAS K. Senthil Kumar remained in controversies. He remained suspended for 3 years on serious charges of corruption. After that, he came into limelight when he got promoted after the suspension. Now once again he has been promoted. Just 14 days ago, he became the Additional Chief Secretary and now he has also got the additional charge of SC/ST Welfare, after which the same old debate has started again. Despite the suspension, Senthil got the promotion. In 2021, Bihar government has appointed 1987 batch UPSC topper Aamir Subhani from the post of Home Secretary. Senthil was removed and made the new Home Secretary. Then he became the Principal Secretary in the Planning and Development Department. Just 14 days ago, he got the promotion of Additional Chief Secretary and now through the notification of the General Administration Department, he has been given the additional charge of Managing Director of Bihar State Scheduled Caste Cooperative Development Corporation. He also has the charge of CEO of Mahadalit Development Mission.
