Parkinson’s Disease symptoms in young Indians: A 38-year-old teacher in Faridabad used to feel tired and stressed as soon as he returned from school. After ignoring it for a long time, when the teacher consulted doctors, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, which till now was considered a disease of the elderly. Not only this, after examining the patient, a gene pattern has also been revealed which indicates that the disease is starting early in Indian people. Doctors have not only warned about this but also claimed that in the new study it has been found that the early symptoms of Parkinson’s are seen in Indian genes like Parkin and BSN in the entire Indian subcontinent.
Doctor Sanjay Pandey said – the patient was surprised
Parkinson’s disease is now happening among the youth also.
Dr Sanjay Pandey, Head Professor, Department of Neurology and Stroke Medicine, Amrita Hospital Faridabad. After handling this case, he said, ‘When the patient came to us, he was very surprised to know the results of the diagnosis. He couldn’t believe that he was showing symptoms of Parkinson’s at such a young age. His case is one of many such cases coming to light in India, which shows that Parkinson’s disease is now increasing even among young people.
Dr. Sanjay told that Goyal’s symptoms were triggered by the Parkin gene. Along with well-known genes like Parkin and SNCA, new Indian studies are also pointing to the BSN gene. This gene is found more in South Asian people. Giving more information about this trend, Dr Pandey said, ‘This change in the gene pattern explains why people in their 30s and 40s dismiss the symptoms of early Parkinson’s as stress or fatigue. In a country like India, where life expectancy as well as neurodegenerative disorders are increasing, it has become very important to incorporate genetic knowledge into daily clinical practice.
He further said that his experience matches with a new Indian study. This study is justifying the fact that Parkinson’s disease is silently developing even in young people. Researchers examined 674 young patients and found that the biggest reason for the occurrence of this disease in Indians under 50 years of age is genetic. Global research done on this trend is also emphasizing this change. A large study from Northwestern University has recently identified the commander gene complex. This gene is a set of genes involved in the protein-recycling system of the brain. When this process cannot happen, it kills the brain cells associated with Parkinson’s. This discovery is now stimulating international conversation on early detection and prevention of disease progression.
This is how the patient was treated
The first symptom of Parkinson’s disease is fatigue.
Targeted medication, physiotherapy, balanced training and speech therapy were included in the treatment of the patient teacher at Amrita Hospital. Later, he underwent a procedure under which electrical leads were inserted inside his brain to improve his movement signals. Because of this process, he was able to regain his physical abilities like before.
The teacher said, he couldn’t believe it
Responding to the sudden detection of these symptoms in himself, Divyanshu Goyal said, ‘When the doctors told me that I had symptoms of Parkinson’s, to tell you the truth, I could not believe it. Being 38 years old, I used to think that this disease affects older people. I was very surprised by the test results but the good thing is that with the treatment I have regained control of my life. I have started teaching again and I hope that my life will continue to be good in this manner.
Let us tell you that the patient was treated within a month and his symptoms were controlled. Presently he is back to his professional and personal routine. His recovery shows that if Parkinson’s is detected early, it can be managed in time and treatment can be more effective.
