Milan Nirmalkar, a gardening expert with more than 11 years of experience, has shared many important tips on taking care of Kalanchoe and adopting it as an ornamental plant.
He said that Kalanchoe is a great option for indoor decoration, especially for those who want a low-care but attractive plant. This plant remains at its peak of natural growth and bloom during the cold season. According to Nirmalkar, flowering of Kalanchoe occurs only in winter. As soon as the cold sets in, the plant is filled with buds, while for the rest of the season it remains just a green plant.
What to do for good growth?
This plant is available in small pots in nurseries, but to plant it at home, a pot of at least 8 inches is necessary so that its roots get enough space and growth can be better. For good growth, it is considered most appropriate to apply it in a mixture of vermicompost and coco peat. The moisture in this mixture remains balanced and the roots of the plant develop rapidly. Kalanchoe is a plant that requires very little water. Nirmalkar told that giving excess water in the pot can cause rot in the roots. Therefore, give light water only as per need. He advised that the plant should not be kept completely inside the room. The best place for this is in the shade, near the window or on a balcony with mild sunlight.
In how many colors are flowers available?
He told that its flowers bloom in about six colors including white, pink, red, orange, mixed and yellow, which give a natural and colorful look to the home decoration. Its flowers remain fresh for a long time in winter. Expert Milan Nirmalkar also told an easy home method to increase the number of flowers. According to him, if the plant wants more and fresh flowers, then decomposed neem cake and mustard cake should be added to the soil of the pot. This provides nutrition to the plant and the buds develop faster.
