Rae Bareli’s AYUSH doctor Dr. Akanksha Dixit says that brinjal is not harmful for everyone, but in some special situations it can be harmful. Pregnant women, arthritis and stone patients, people suffering from acidity or allergy should consume brinjal thoughtfully. It provides nutrition when consumed in balanced quantity and cooked properly, but excessive consumption can cause health problems.
Brinjal is called the king of vegetables. Apart from being rich in taste and nutrition, it also provides many health benefits, but like everything, it can also have some disadvantages. In some cases, consumption of brinjal can cause health problems, especially for those who have certain diseases or conditions. Therefore, before consuming brinjal, it is important to know about its side effects and precautions.
According to Ayurveda, the nature of brinjal is hot and gas producing. This is why it can put pressure on the digestive system. Consumption of brinjal can be harmful for people who suffer from acidity, gas or flatulence.
Pregnant women are advised to avoid consuming brinjal. The phytohormones present in brinjal can stimulate the uterus, which may lead to miscarriage or other complications. Eating brinjal should be avoided especially in the initial months of pregnancy.

Brinjal is also not considered suitable for people suffering from arthritis or joint pain. An element called solanine is found in it, which can increase swelling and pain in the joints. For this reason, arthritis patients should avoid eating brinjal.
It should be known that oxalates are found in brinjal, which can increase the problem of kidney stones. People who already suffer from stones should reduce their consumption of brinjal or not consume it at all.
Some people may have allergy problems after eating brinjal. Due to this, reactions like itching, swelling or difficulty in breathing can be seen on the skin, hence especially small children and sensitive people should eat it with caution. Limited consumption of brinjal is better for diabetic patients. Although it helps in controlling sugar, eating it in excess can cause unstable blood sugar levels.
