New Delhi. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has targeted Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. BJP’s handle on social media platforms said that Rahul Gandhi lies in Parliament. Along with this, the party has also shared a video of Rahul Gandhi’s address in Parliament on ‘X’.
The BJP said that the election commissioners were selected by a committee comprising the Chief Justice and the leader of the opposition. Can Rahul Gandhi name any Election Commissioner during the Congress government who was selected by a committee comprising the Chief Justice or the Leader of the Opposition?
Bharatiya Janata Party said that this committee was formed temporarily till the new law is made. Till now, Congress Prime Ministers have been appointing election commissioners directly. Has Rahul Gandhi forgotten his UPA rule?
The social media post further said that in 2005, Sonia Gandhi appointed Naveen Chawla as the Election Commissioner. What rights did Sonia have? In 2012, a new Chief Election Commissioner was to be appointed to oversee the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
The ruling party said that Lal Krishna Advani had suggested the Congress to form a collegium for the selection of the Chief Election Commissioner. Congress ignored this and directly appointed VS Sampath as the Chief Election Commissioner and also immediately took approval from President Pratibha Patil.
BJP alleged that even the opposition was not taken into confidence in the appointment. Today the opposition leaders are part of the committee formed to select the Chief Election Commissioner. Instead of providing constructive cooperation in the selection of the new Chief Election Commissioner, Rahul Gandhi is just doing drama.
Actually, in the video shared by BJP, Rahul Gandhi is seen raising questions on the appointment process of the Chief Election Commissioner. Rahul Gandhi has questioned the Central Government as to why it is so intent on removing the Chief Justice of India from the panel that selects the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners. He raised the question why the CJI was removed from the selection panel. Do they not trust the CJI?
