Bengaluru’s centuries-old Halasura Someshwara Swamy temple has now desisted from conducting marriages. The reason is that the pundits here are now fed up with the rounds of courts. The temple had taken this decision many years ago, but this came to light only now when a couple reached the Chief Minister’s office.
Bengaluru’s century-old Halasuru Someshwara Swamy Temple, once a popular venue for weddings, has stopped conducting weddings on its premises. The temple administration has also given the reason for this. In fact, the pundits here are now fed up with the rounds of the courts. The temple administration said that when couples married here get divorced, they have to face legal hassles and are often called to testify in the court.
The temple committee says that they are fed up with the legal disputes arising after the breakdown of the marriage. This decision was taken about six-seven years ago, but it has become public recently after the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) came forward.
Pujaar troubled by court cases
This decision came into the public eye when a person complained directly to the Karnataka Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) about the refusal to conduct a marriage. When the CMO sought clarification from the temple administration, the priests and officials said that they were fed up of getting involved in court cases after the breakdown of the marriage. According to ‘The Indian Express’ report, the temple staff shared that they were often called as witnesses by the court during divorce hearings.
