Patna/Kishanganj/Supaul/Katihar/Lalganj/Lakhisarai. Huge ruckus was witnessed in many districts of Bihar on Monday during the administrative campaign to remove encroachment. On one hand, the police and administration were busy in freeing the government land from encroachment, while at many places the protest increased so much that the situation became violent. The mob pelted stones at the police and city council team that had gone to remove encroachment near the historical Khagada fair ground of Kishanganj. Stones were pelted at the JCB, its glass was broken and there was also a scuffle with the policemen. As the situation worsened, the entire area was converted into a police camp. After protest by shopkeepers during removal of encroachment at Patel Chowk in Supaul, the police dispersed the crowd by lathicharge. Shopkeepers alleged that action was being taken without giving any notice. Bulldozer was used on illegal encroachment along NH-31 and SH-77 in Kursela, Katihar. Nagar Panchayat officials said that the campaign will continue to resolve the problem of traffic jam. There was a huge uproar over the removal of encroachment in Lalganj market of Vaishali. Many shopkeepers themselves started breaking the balconies and stairs of their shops. Whereas in Lakhisarai, encroachments made on the roadside were demolished by running JCB from Naya Bazaar to Badi Durgasthan. At most places, shopkeepers alleged not receiving notice and unilateral action.
