Subsidy on banana farming: A target of 50 hectares has been set for tissue culture banana gardening for farmers in Lakhisarai. Under the scheme, farmers will get a maximum grant of ₹ 70,000 per hectare in two installments. Let’s understand the complete plan
If seen from the perspective of farmers, the farmers of Lakhisarai district have also been on the path of progress since last years. In such a situation, new efforts are being made by the government to encourage the farmers here and increase their income. Part of this effort is to increase the income of farmers by giving them subsidy in banana horticulture.
Amidst the constantly changing climate and rising costs of traditional farming, people are increasingly turning to gardening. In this series, the state government has made a provision of a grant of about Rs 40 crore in the next two years on the area expansion scheme of tissue culture banana under Banana Horticulture i.e. Integrated Horticulture Development Mission in Bihar, so that farmers can earn more income and farming can get a new dimension. Lakhisarai has also been linked to this scheme.
Target of banana gardening in 50 hectare area
District Horticulture Officer Rajiv Ranjan told Local 18 that under this scheme in Lakhisarai, a target of banana gardening has been set in 50 hectare area. Farmers will be given a grant of 40% i.e. ₹ 70,000 on the unit cost of Rs 1,75,000 per hectare. This amount will be released in two installments – ₹ 42,000 (60%) in the first installment, while ₹ 28,000 (40%) will be provided in the second installment. The objective of this scheme is that more and more farmers can strengthen their economic condition by adopting banana horticulture. Under the scheme, farmers will be able to apply for a minimum of 0.25 acres and a maximum of 2 hectares (5 acres). The state and central governments together will spend a total of Rs 21 lakh on this scheme in the district. The special thing is that farmers will be provided tissue culture plants of advanced varieties like Malbhog, Chiniya and G9, which are known for higher production and better quality.

The benefit of the scheme will be available only to those farmers who are registered on the DBT portal. Under the application process, farmers can apply online for Tissue Culture Banana Area Expansion Scheme by visiting horticulture.bihar.gov.in. Selection of benefits will be on first come-first serve basis, so that transparency is maintained and more farmers can access the schemes. To get further information regarding the scheme and avail benefits, you can contact the Block Horticulture Office. If the officials are negligent here, then complain about it to the District Horticulture Officer. The government hopes that this initiative will lead to a big increase in the income of the farmers not only of Lakhisarai but of entire Bihar. Banana gardening is considered to be less risky and more profitable than traditional crops, and with this grant the confidence of farmers will be further strengthened.
