Tokyo. The earth shook in Japan on Monday night. According to Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the intensity of the earthquake has been measured at 7.6 on the Richter scale. Immediately after this, a warning was issued for a tsunami up to 3 meters (10 feet) high on the north-eastern coast. The administration has asked people living in coastal areas to immediately move to higher places. This warning has been issued for Hokkaido, Aomori and Iwate prefectures, where the danger is highest. The epicenter of the earthquake is said to be away from the coast, but its tremors were so strong that people came out of their homes.
Fear of 10 feet high waves in the dark of night: The earthquake’s tremors were felt at around 11:15 pm. The earthquake that happened so late last night left people in panic. JMA has clearly said that the sea is strong and waves up to 10 feet high can hit the shore. Tremors were felt in a large part of the north and east of Japan. The agency has appealed to people to stay away from the beaches and take shelter in safe places.
Red alert in Hokkaido and Aomori: After the tsunami warning, sirens have started sounding in Hokkaido, Aomori and Iwate prefectures. The local administration has put emergency services on alert mode. An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 is considered extremely dangerous. There is also a possibility of damage to buildings due to this.
