Dhanbad. Maithon Dam, situated about 70 kilometers away from Dhanbad, is known for its beauty and exciting tourist activities. Spread over about 65 square kilometers, this dam was built in the year 1948 by Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). This big dam built on the Damodar River plays a big role in saving water, generating electricity and for tourism. Tourists definitely visit the nearby islands through boating. According to boat operator Israel, the crowd of people starts increasing during the December holidays and New Year celebrations. From here, boating is done to Chaman Island, Long Gate, Bada Pahad and Chhota Pahad. ₹ 100 per person is charged for the Chhota Pahad tour, which takes 30 minutes to 1 hour. The fare for six people is fixed at ₹600 to go to Chaman Island, from where a 360 degree beautiful view of the dam can be seen.

More than 100 speed boats and boats are engaged in serving the people in Maithon Dam. The fare for a 24-seater high speed boat is around ₹1500, which covers at least all four islands. It takes about 3 hours to visit all the islands by ordinary boat and it costs ₹ 600 to ₹ 800. Life jackets and trained divers are also kept for the safety of people.
