answer- The function of the kidney is to remove waste materials from the body. When a patient’s kidney is damaged or stops working, then transplanting a healthy kidney in its place given by a healthy donor is called kidney transplant.

Question- How much does kidney transplant cost?
answer- Kidney transplant cost varies depending on the type of surgery, living or deceased donor, hospital and facilities. Usually, kidney transplant is done in private hospitals at a cost of lakhs of rupees. It can be Rs 5-10 lakh or more.
Question- How much does it cost to undergo kidney transplant in AIIMS?
answer- In AIIMS, kidney transplant is done at just 5 to 10 percent of the cost. Here doctors, hospitals and beds for transplant surgery are completely free. For the kidney to be transplanted to the patient, the patient himself has to bring a donor, although all his tests are free. Medicines are also given free to the patient during transplant, but some surgical items and some medicines have to be purchased from outside.

answer- Earlier the wait used to be long but now it is not so. Now the waiting time for kidney transplant in AIIMS has reduced significantly. The patient is undergoing transplant after waiting for about 3 months. The biggest reason for this is that now the transplant facility is being provided not only in surgery but also by the urology department. The Department of Urology has completed one year since starting the kidney transplant facility.

Kidney transplantation of 21 patients has been done in the operation theaters of the Urology department within a year. The facilities are being expanded further and more and more patients will now get the facility of kidney transplant with less waiting time.

answer- Kidney transplant does not take much time, it is just a surgical procedure but the most time it takes for the patient to find the right donor. Who will donate the kidney, whether the blood group and tissues of the person going to donate are matching or not. When is a donor available? Apart from this, after the donor is ready, all his tests are done inside AIIMS so that the transplant process can be successful and there is no problem post surgery.
