Purpose of new criminal laws
CSP Rahul Bansal told Local 18 that the Government of India has implemented new criminal laws including the Indian Justice Code in place of the Indian Penal Code from July 1, 2024. The main objective of these laws is to replace the old, punishment-based English laws with a justice and victim-centric system. Now the focus is on ensuring justice and rights of the victim rather than the criminal.

In this context, a detailed exhibition has been organized by Surguja Police to explain the new criminal laws in common language. The objective of the exhibition is that people can understand their rights, duties and modern functioning of police closely and become more legally aware and empowered.
