New Delhi. The Kolkata-Chandauli Expressway connecting Kolkata to Chandauli in Uttar Pradesh is bringing great relief to the passengers. After the construction of this expressway, the long journey of 16 hours will be reduced to just 6 hours. This expressway being built under the Bharmala project will not only make travel easier, but will also speed up economic activities between four states – UP, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. This project is expected to be fully operational by 2028.
686 km long corridor will change the connectivity of four states
According to NHAI, this expressway will be approximately 686 kilometers long and will cost approximately Rs 24,275 crore. It will reach Kolkata passing through major cities like Bhabhua, Sasaram, Aurangabad, Bokaro, Ranchi and Purulia. Officials say that reducing traffic jams will not only save time on long routes, but will also reduce traffic pressure within each state. With the completion of this project, direct and fast travel between big cities will be possible.
Construction accelerated, but forest permission stopped work at many places
According to Project Manager Sanchit Mangala, construction on the 413 km stretch of Ranchi-Varanasi section is going on in different stages. At many places, work is stalled due to delay in forest permission, but in Chandauli district, the acquired land has been completely vacated and construction here is progressing at a fast pace. Mangala says that according to the current pace, it will take about three more years to complete this entire expressway.
New high speed link will connect to Delhi, Jammu-Kashmir and Rajasthan
This expressway will not be limited to connecting only Banaras and Kolkata. With this, Kolkata will also get a direct route from Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, as it will be linked to Purvanchal Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway and Yamuna Expressway. Besides, connectivity with Rajasthan will also increase through Chambal Expressway. Experts believe that this network will establish Kolkata as a major node of high-speed road projects in the country. With the start of this project, both time and fuel of the passengers will be saved, while trade and tourism between the states will also get a big benefit. It is expected that in the coming years this expressway will give a new direction to the connectivity of Eastern India.
