Ghazipur: Central Teacher Eligibility Test i.e. CTET is the exam which decides whether a candidate is eligible to teach in a government school or not. Every year lakhs of candidates appear for this examination, but very few pass. Gaurav Yadav of Ghazipur has passed CTET twice with good marks. He says that CTET is not difficult but there is a need to study it intelligently.
The first step is to understand the pattern of CTET.
CTET is conducted at two levels. Paper-1 is for classes 1 to 5 and Paper-2 is for classes 6 to 8. There are a total of 150 questions in both the papers, 150 marks and the time is fixed at 2 hours 30 minutes. The special thing is that there is no negative marking in it. Around 90 marks are considered sufficient for general category and 80–82 marks for OBC/SC/ST category.
Why is Paper-2 considered more difficult?
Gaurav explains that Paper-2 is considered more challenging. If 10 lakh people appear for the exam, barely 5% pass. The reason for this is that mere rote memorization of information is not useful here. CTET is a concept based exam, which requires more understanding and analytical ability.
Pedagogy is the biggest game-changer of CTET
According to Gaurav Yadav, the real strength of CTET lies in pedagogy. The questions asked in child development and pedagogy are based on issues like how children learn, why their behavior changes, how distraction occurs in the classroom, how motivation is achieved. The theories of psychologists like Piaget and Vygotsky are directly asked in the paper. If this chapter becomes strong, then half of CTET should automatically be considered clear.
CTET comes from understanding, not just from Maths.
Gaurav says that CTET is not a mathematics exam, but a test to understand the mind and learning process of children. If the right concept is grasped, the questions themselves become easy. They say that Pedagogy is the strongest basis to increase the score in the entire paper.
Gaurav’s 3-Step Strategy
According to Gaurav, the biggest weapon for success in CTET is previous year papers. Solve papers of last 5–6 years. Be sure to revise two-three times, because questions are repeated. Stick to the same previous year book
Along with this, he says that the concepts become very clear through let’s learn classes on YouTube.
Consistency is the key to success
Gaurav says that studying for 2-3 hours daily is enough. The most important thing is to study continuously and understand the concepts. CTET is not passed by rote learning. When pedagogy is understood, marks automatically increase.
