Agra: Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India has opened up new business opportunities for the artisans of Agra. The famous mosaic art of Agra is now getting the direct benefit of the warmth in India-Russia relations after the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Putin. There was already a demand for mosaic in Russia, but after the recent visit this interest seems to be increasing rapidly.
Adnan Sheikh, director of Agra’s Adjiran Company, says that his ancestors were involved in the mosaic work of Taj Mahal and this art is very much liked in foreign countries, especially in Russia. According to Adnan, due to the marble and mosaic designs installed in Putin’s house and office, its demand among Russian customers has increased further. He told that after the Putin-Modi meeting the business environment has become positive. New orders are coming continuously from Russia, and many customers are sending photos of the design installed in Putin’s office and requesting to get a similar mosaic prepared. The company has also started work on these orders.
Adnan Sheikh said, ‘This opportunity is very important for artisans like us. The strengthened relations between the two countries have opened new avenues of trade. For this we are grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also told that the demand for the handcrafted chess board gifted to Putin by the Prime Minister has also suddenly increased in Russia. Many customers are placing orders for making a chess board of the same design. The mosaic of Agra is once again in discussion in the international market and this time the reason is the increasing proximity of India and Russia.
