Lakhisarai: The government is making continuous efforts to increase the income of farmers and promote vegetable production. In this series, farmers are being motivated for vegetable production through special horticulture scheme in many districts. Not only this, financial assistance is also being given to motivate the farmers. So that farmers get good income by moving into cash crops and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of doubling the income of farmers is fulfilled.
Today we will tell you this story related to this scheme. In Lakhisarai, a big initiative has been taken to provide subsidy up to 75 percent on distribution of vegetable seeds and seeds. Under this scheme, targets are being set for the cultivation of many major vegetables including green peas, carrots, beetroot, brinjal and high quality seeds are being made available to the farmers, so that the income of the farmers can be doubled.
Government will provide seeds for vegetable farming
Lakhisarai District Horticulture Officer Rajeev Ranjan told Local 18 that the use of high quality seeds will not only increase production. Rather, the cost of farming will also reduce. In view of the challenges faced by changing weather patterns, increase in temperature and irregular rainfall, this scheme can prove to be very helpful for the farmers. He said that this year a target of 20 hectares has been set for the cultivation of green peas. A target of 30 hectares has been set for carrots, 10 hectares for beetroot and 30 hectares for brinjal. Apart from this, encouragement will also be given for the cultivation of vegetables like pumpkin, bitter gourd and watermelon in the summer season.
Know how much grant you will get
According to the grant amount fixed by the government, the cost of cultivating green peas and carrots is approximately Rs 10,000 per hectare, on which farmers will get a grant of 75 percent i.e. Rs 7,500. At the same time, the cost of beetroot cultivation is about Rs 12000 per hectare, on which farmers will get a grant of up to Rs 9000. Brinjal cultivation costs approximately Rs 2400 per hectare, 75 percent of which will be borne by the government. Farmers can avail the benefit of this scheme up to a maximum of two and a half acres.
Under this scheme, vegetable bundles will be given to every farmer at a subsidized rate ranging from a minimum of Rs 1000 to a maximum of Rs 10000. At the same time, farmers purchasing seeds will be provided seed subsidy ranging from 0.25 acres to a maximum of 2.5 acres.

Lakhisarai District Horticulture Officer Rajeev Ranjan further said that to avail the benefits of this scheme, farmers will have to present any valid document like land ownership certificate, updated revenue receipt, genealogy or agreement. If the name of a farmer is not clearly recorded in the revenue receipt, it will be mandatory to attach the genealogy. Non-Rayat farmers can also avail the benefits of this scheme on the basis of agreement. The format of the agreement is also available online, which farmers can easily download.
