Agriculture News: The Horticulture Department has also set targets for Lakhisarai district. A target of 4 thousand plants each for cabbage, cauliflower and tomato has been received from the department, while a target of 6 thousand plants has been received for Capsicum.
Till yesterday, Lakhisarai, which was known as a Naxal affected district, is now establishing its own identity in farming by benefiting from government schemes. Now the state government has taken another big step for the farmers here. Under the schemes of the Horticulture Department, this district has also been included for the Vegetable Development Scheme, which will directly benefit even the small scale vegetable producing farmers here. It is being told that up to 75% subsidy will be given to farmers for the cultivation of hybrid vegetables, so that the cost of farming can be reduced and both production and income can improve rapidly.
The government intends to increase self-reliance by strengthening agriculture even in Naxal affected areas. Here, hybrid seeds and seedlings of different vegetables will be made available to the farmers at subsidized rates. The benefits of the scheme will be given on first come first serve basis, hence farmers are being suggested to apply in time.
Grant will be given for vegetable cultivation
District Horticulture Officer Rajiv Ranjan told Local 18 that under the Vegetable Development Scheme, farmers will get high quality seeds and seedlings at very low rates. For example, if the price of a seed is Rs 10, then the farmer will have to pay only Rs 2.5. The scheme is applicable for both Rabi and Garma seasons, and small-medium farmers can make the most of it. Under the scheme, subsidy ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹10,000 is being provided on seeds and on seeds from 0.25 to 2.5 acres. Seeds and saplings of high value vegetables—like broccoli, color capsicum, seedless cucumber, brinjal, cauliflower, cabbage, chilli, bottle gourd etc.—will be given to farmers at a subsidy of 75% of the unit cost.
