Mushroom Farming Tips: Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Dayaram of Central Agricultural University, Pusa and Dr. R.P. Prasad has emphasized on timely sowing of button mushroom and quality compost. He has also given many advices. By adopting which farmers can produce better production.
Samastipur: Scientists of Mushroom Department of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa of the district have advised the farmers to sow button mushroom on time. Mushroom expert Dr. Dayaram said that due to untimely rain this year, there has been a delay in preparing compost, due to which sowing could not be done on time. He urged the farmers who have not yet been able to sow button mushrooms to complete the sowing work at a fast pace this week, otherwise production may be adversely affected. It will be beneficial for the farmers to do priority sowing on the basis of available compost.
It is very important to check the quality while purchasing compost from outside.
Mushroom growers have been advised that if they buy compost from any other place, they must check its quality. Mushroom Center In-charge cum Scientist Dr. R.P. Prasad said that the compost used for sowing should not have the smell of ammonia. Also, the moisture content of the prepared compost should be 60 to 65 percent, pH value should be between 7.2 to 7.8 and its color should be light brown. If the moisture or temperature in the compost is high, it can be balanced by spreading it in an open space and cooling it. Only quality compost becomes the basis of healthy and high production.
Scientific instructions for cottage growers
Scientists have also shared special instructions for the farmers who produce mushrooms in their huts. It is advised to mix one kilogram of spawn in one quintal of compost. After sowing, it is very important to maintain the temperature inside the hut at 24–25 degrees Celsius and humidity at 85–90 percent. With the right temperature and humidity, mushrooms are prepared faster and with better quality. Scientists say that if farmers sow on time and pay attention to the quality of compost, the yield of button mushroom can increase up to double.
