Dr. Swami Dayanand Muni, Mahant of Baba Sahaj Ram Ashram, tells that Baba Ram Ji Maharaj had come here about 450 years ago and this Sagara was carved during his time only. At that time, groups of saints used to leave from here to tour across the country. These groups used to bring water from various holy rivers of India and flow it in this Sagara. For this reason this pond is considered a confluence of sacred water.

According to local traditions and beliefs of the people, the water of this pond has medicinal properties. The person who applies this water on his body is cured of leprosy. This water is considered beneficial not only in leprosy but also in many other serious skin diseases. Despite being associated with history and faith, this pond is today a victim of neglect. Due to lack of regular cleaning, many aquatic plants including water hyacinth have spread in it. Due to this the water is getting contaminated and the purity of the pond is getting affected. Local people are demanding that Sagra Pond be cleaned so that its historical and religious importance can be maintained.
