Type 1 diabetes: Get children’s sugar checked from time to time, especially when any unusual symptoms are seen in them. Due to awareness in foreign countries, lives of Type-1 patient children are being saved in time. There is a need to adopt the same method in India also. There is no permanent cure for type-1 diabetes.
Kanpur. The number of children suffering from Type-1 diabetes is continuously increasing in many states of the country like Kolkata, Kerala, Karnataka, Gujarat and Rajasthan. There are lakhs of patients in UP also. Seeing the situation becoming serious, the Central Government is now providing free insulin and sugar measuring strips to these children, so that the disease does not go out of control. This information was given by Dr. Graham Ogle, an expert from Australia, during a conference in Kanpur. This program was organized by the Society for Prevention and Awareness of Diabetes.
Dr. Ogle said that in India, the highest number of cases of Type 1 diabetes are found in children aged 8 to 15 years. This age group is the most sensitive because many parents are not able to recognize the initial symptoms. Problems like frequent thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, weight loss and weakness are often considered normal and ignored, due to which the disease increases.
This work is still pending
Dr. Ogle said that in type-1 diabetes, the child’s body completely stops producing insulin. In such a situation, the only solution left is to take insulin daily. Many poor families are not able to bear its expenses, hence getting insulin and glucose strips from the government is proving to be a great relief for the children. Experts said that the government’s plan is good, but its pace is still slow. In many states, essential materials are not arriving on time, due to which treatment is stopped midway and children are put in danger. Dr. Ogle said that if insulin is not received on time, the condition of children can deteriorate rapidly, hence it is very important to make the distribution system faster and simpler.
this is the only way
According to Dr. Ogle, his organization Life for Child provides help to children suffering from Type-1 diabetes in many countries including India. Their aim is to ensure that no child loses his life just because his family does not have the money to get treatment. There is no permanent cure for Type 1 diabetes, but with timely testing and regular insulin, children can live a normal life. If parents remain alert about the health of their children, this serious disease can be controlled to a great extent.
