In view of the increasing cold in Patna, the capital of Bihar, the Municipal Corporation has fully prepared all the permanent, temporary and German hangar shelters across the city to provide relief to the homeless and helpless people. The corporation has a clear instruction that no person should be forced to spend the night under the open sky this winter. Under this goal, shelters with about 953 bed capacity are being operated, where facilities ranging from accommodation to food are available to the needy completely free of cost.
What facilities will be available in night shelters?
The Municipal Corporation has provided basic to essential facilities in all the night shelters. This includes provision of clean drinking water, toilets, mosquito nets and adequate blankets. As the cold increases, each person will be given two blankets. At the same time, arrangements have also been made for free food at night so that no one sleeps hungry.
Strong security arrangements
To run the night shelter management smoothly, caretakers have been deployed in three shifts. For security reasons, CCTV cameras and fire extinguishers have been installed in all the shelters. A manager has been appointed at each site who will constantly keep an eye on the arrangements. Apart from this, letters have also been sent to nearby police stations and instructions have been given to increase patrolling at night.
Separate night shelters for women
Keeping in mind the safety and convenience of women, the Municipal Corporation has created special night shelters for women in many major areas of the city. Only women can stay here. These night shelters have been built at Gandhi Maidan, in front of Maurya Hotel, near Buddha Smriti Park, Fraser Road and Patna City Nala.
Zone wise night shelter status
05 German hangars, 02 permanent, 05 temporary in Nutan Rajdhani zone, 05 German hangars, 02 permanent in Kankarbagh zone, 01 temporary in Patliputra zone, 02 temporary in Patna City zone and 02 German hangars, 02 permanent night shelters have been built in Azimabad zone. Night shelters have been built at all the major places in Patna.
