Farming With Modern Technology: Many modern methods of farming are being adopted in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh. In this series, a modern farmer family, father and son, resident of Supalga, Surguja, started brinjal cultivation in 2025 by learning the tricks of farming from mobile. Due to hard work and proper use of technology, he got a profit of lakhs of rupees from the brinjal crop. After this, he has started cultivating cauliflower in the cold season. This crop of cabbage planted in the field is now almost ready and will be completely ready for the market in a few days. A glimpse of traditional beliefs was also seen amidst the harvest. An old cattle bone was seen hanging in the field. In ancient times, it was used to protect from prying eyes. Despite adopting modern technology, farmers are still keeping these traditional methods alive. See this report….
Mobile made modern farmer
Surguja resident Sajan Minj told Local 18 that he started modern farming in the year 2025. First he saw the cultivation of brinjal, then after taking information from mobile, he worked hard and planted the crop himself. As soon as the brinjal crop was over, he started cultivating cabbage. About 1700 saplings have been planted and in two months the saplings are looking fantastic. Flowering has started in one or two places and harvesting is expected in 15-20 days.
Traditional ‘bone’ tradition
Sajan Minj tells that his ancestors used to plant ‘bones’ in the fields so that they could not be seen. This tradition continues even today. Along with cabbage, he has also started cultivating vegetables like radish, peas, gourd and semi. They are working day and night on medicines, fertilizers and irrigation.
Full use of fertilizer and technology
According to Minj, all the necessary fertilizers including potash, DAP, zinc, urea, super, 13-40, 52-0-34, 50-50 and 19-19 have been applied in the field. They take all the information from mobile and advice from experienced farmers. Earlier he used to sow corn in the garden and then sow mustard, but now in 2025 he has started a new practice of modern farming.
cost and profit 5 thousand expenses
According to Sajan Minj, the total cost of cultivating cabbage is about Rs 5,000. If the rate of cabbage is Rs 50 per kg in the market and at least one pav is produced from 1700 plants, then about 9 quintals of cabbage will be ready, which is likely to yield an income of about Rs 50 thousand. He had invested Rs 90 thousand in brinjal crop and earned income ranging from Rs 90 thousand to Rs 2.5 lakh. The cabbage was planted around September 2 and its sale is expected to start from December 20.
family contribution
Sajan Minj told that the elder daughter is doing private duty after completing her nursing studies in Raipur. The younger son is learning farming and is also studying in class 12th. He helps his father in providing medicines, water and care in the fields. There are two sons and a daughter in the family and all three are hardworking. Son says studies as well as farming are important… Sajan Minj’s younger son told that I study as well as farming. Now cabbage has been planted, after this we will plant bitter gourd and tomato. It feels good to work with dad. Along with studies, farming experience is also necessary, only then we will be able to do farming further. I take out separate time for both studies and farming.
