Grafted Eggplant Technology: Santosh Kumar, a farmer of Adjal village of Daundi development block of Balod district of Chhattisgarh, adopted grafted brinjal technology with the help of the horticulture department and has found a new direction by leaving traditional paddy farming. By planting 30 thousand saplings in one acre, he achieved production of 250 quintals and is strengthening his financial position by earning an income of about Rs 5 lakh. Let us know through pictures.
Santosh Kumar left paddy cultivation and adopted improved grafted brinjal plants. The technical guidance and subsidized plants received from the Horticulture Department strengthened the base of their farming.
30 thousand saplings were planted in an intensive manner in one acre area. Balanced fertilizer management, drip irrigation and plant protection measures provided a favorable environment for better growth and production of the crop.
Within a few months of starting farming, Santosh achieved the production of more than 250 quintals of brinjal. The quality and disease resistance of the grafted plants made production stable and profitable.

Due to the demand of brinjal in the market and its size, quality, Santosh got a price of Rs 20-25 per kg. This stable market price ensured a profit of around Rs 5 lakh from one acre.
Santosh Kumar is now considering this technology as his model and inspiring nearby farmers also. According to him, the schemes of the department gave them financial strength and gave a new direction to farming.
