Rahveer Scheme- Under the Rahveer Scheme, if a passerby or citizen provides immediate medical help to a person injured in an accident, he is given a cash reward of ₹ 25,000 and a citation. The helper should not be a relative or family member of the victim.
New Delhi. Road accidents remain a serious problem in India. According to data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) and the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), lakhs of accidents occur every year, resulting in thousands of deaths and injuries. In the year 2023, there were 480583 road accidents in the country in which 172890 people lost their lives and 462825 people were injured. If a person injured in a road accident gets timely treatment, his life can be saved. This is called golden hour. The Government of India also gives a reward of Rs 25,000 under ‘Raah Veer Yojana’ to encourage the common man to help road accident victims. But, most of the people are unaware of this scheme of the government.
Under the Rah Veer scheme, if a passerby or citizen provides immediate medical help to a person injured in an accident, he is given a cash reward of ₹ 25,000 and a citation. This scheme is made under Section 134A of the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019, which also provides legal protection to the helpers. That means the police or administration will not harass them in any way.
Who will get the reward?
The helper should not be a relative or family member of the victim. If more than one person helps, the amount will be divided equally. A person can get the reward only maximum 5 times in a year. ₹25,000 is transferred directly to the cash bank account. The helper has to take the person injured in the accident to the hospital within an hour. In case of an accident, the helper has to first inform the police or highway helpline and immediately take the victim to the hospital.
Very few people would know about this scheme. If there is an accident on the National Highway and you take the victim to the hospital, then you will get Rs 25,000 as reward.
The second rule in case of an accident on the National Highway is that NHAI itself gets the treatment of the victim done for 7 days, up to Rs 1.5 lakh.… pic.twitter.com/mMFKqIHN6B
