Agra News: While the world knows Agra for the Taj Mahal, there are also ancient Shiva temples in this historical city whose history is said to be even before the Mughal period. According to local beliefs, the Shivalingas located at Dussehra Ghat and Basai Ghat are more ancient than the Taj Mahal and are considered extremely miraculous.
Agra: Agra of Uttar Pradesh is famous all over the world as a historical city. The land of Agra was ruled by the Mughals for many years, many monuments built by them even today give a distinct identity to the city. However, apart from the Mughal architecture, there are many ancient temples also located in Agra, whose history is believed to be even before the Mughals. Shiva temples located in all four directions of Agra are considered wonderful in themselves. There is also a Shiva temple in the middle of the city, whose Shivalinga is said to have been established by Lord Shiva himself.
Shivalinga of Basai Ghat is also older than Taj Mahal
The Shivalingas located at both Dussehra Ghat and Basai Ghat are said to be older than the Taj Mahal. According to priest Balram Pandey, the Shivalinga of Basai Ghat is mentioned in mythology and was installed here before the construction of Taj Mahal. However, temples were built later at both the places.
