A shocking case has come to light in London, where a huge live snake was left to die in its tank (vivarium) near a heap of garbage. The garbage collectors had mistaken him for garbage and were almost going to take him away. However, now the tank has been found, but the snake is missing, due to which its life is in danger.
Keeping pets is a big responsibility and when people are unable to fulfill it, such cases come to light which are heart-wrenching. Recently, a shocking incident has come to light from London, where a huge and alive snake was probably thrown to die near a garbage heap along with its tank, putting its life in danger. This incident is a horrific example of wildlife cruelty, which has shocked people across the region. This incident took place on November 26 in Montagu Road, Edmonton, near Tottenham, North London. The snake was left outside in its vivarium (tank) near dustbins and garbage bags. The most worrying thing was that the bin men (garbage collectors) were about to pick up this live animal, mistaking it for a piece of garbage. But then his eyes fell on her.
As soon as the news of this incident was received, Chris Newman, director of the National Center for Reptile Welfare, immediately appealed to the local people to save the snake and remove it from there, so that the garbage collectors do not take it away. Chris Newman said that he received a lot of messages about this incident and the situation was quite confusing. A man was on his way to pick up the snake when Chris got word that the vivarium (tank) had been moved. Chris Newman later got information that the vivarium had been taken away by the bin man. However, later a person messaged him and told him that the tank had been removed from there, but the snake was not in it. This raised hopes that perhaps a local person might have saved the snake. Chris Newman said, “I hope someone picked up the snake safely.”
danger to life in cold
Even though the snake’s tank has been found, there is no exact information about the snake’s whereabouts. People have expressed their surprise and displeasure over this incident on social media. Emily Wright, a local resident, said: “It’s disgusting. A lot of people could have taken that poor guy. I’m praying for his safety.” Meanwhile, Benjamin Curry said, “It is very sad. The temperature in London last night was below zero.” A woman named Marcia Cooper commented that the snake looked “very thin,” suggesting it was probably not receiving proper care. This incident shows how inhumane the practice of abandoning exotic pets can be, especially when it is winter in a place like London. For a cold-blooded animal like a snake, staying out in the open during such low temperature nights can prove fatal.
