Agriculture News: Ichak block of Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand is recognized across the country for its special tasting potatoes. Here potatoes are cultivated on more than 100 acres of land in every village. Potato has been cultivated in more than 5,000 acres of area in Ichak.
Potato is such a vegetable whose demand remains throughout the year. In Indian kitchen, vegetables are considered incomplete without potatoes. Perhaps this is why the potato market never slows down. Ichak block of Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand is recognized across the country for its special tasting potatoes. The potatoes here are so famous that traders from far-flung states reach the village directly in trucks. Goods are purchased from the farms themselves.
Even though the weather has not favored the farmers this time. Still, the potato trade in Ichak block is being estimated to be worth more than Rs 100 crore. The crops are ready in the fields. Farmers are busy harvesting potatoes on a large scale. For this the help of laborers is also being taken. For the coming 15 days, traders from many states including Bihar, Bengal and Uttar Pradesh will reach villages and make purchases.
Potato is cultivated in 100 acres
Laljit Mehta, a progressive farmer of Ichak, says that there are 98 revenue villages in the block and in almost every village, potatoes are cultivated on more than 100 acres of land. This time, potatoes have been cultivated in more than 5,000 acres of area in Ichak. This figure shows that Ichak has become an important center of potato production in the entire country. Small farmers also grow potatoes on limited land and earn good profits. This time the crop has been good despite the adverse weather conditions. Farmers are working hard in the fields from morning till late evening, harvesting potatoes and filling them in sacks. Traders keep coming and going in the villages throughout the day. Many traders finalize the deal over the phone and procure produce from the fields. Therefore it would not be wrong to call Ichaak a bowl of potatoes.
Potato is in demand throughout the year
The biggest identity of Ichaak’s potato is its unique taste. This is the reason why buyers are ready to pay a premium price for the potatoes originating from here. It is supplied in the country and the demand remains throughout the year. Because of this specialty, Ichak’s potato still remains the first choice of consumers across the country.
