Nilgiri Mountain Railway is part of UNESCO’s Mountain Railways of India World Heritage List. Apart from Nilgiri Passenger Train, Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (West Bengal) and Kalka-Shimla Railway (Himachal) are also included in this list. Nilgiri passenger train covers a distance of only 46 kilometers in five hours. This means that it covers a distance of just under 9 kilometers in an hour. This train is about 18 times slower than the fastest train in India.

During the journey of 46 kilometers, Nilgiri Passenger train passes through about 208 sharp turns. Besides, there are 250 bridges and 16 tunnels on its way.
What is the fare of Nilgiri Passenger Train?
The first class fare of Nilgiri Passenger Train (Nilgiri Passenger Train Ticket price) is around Rs 600. If you want to travel in second class then this fare is halved. Nilgiri Mountain Railway train leaves Mettupalayam at 7.10 am (Nilgiri Passenger Train time Table) and reaches Ooty at 12 noon. In return, it leaves Ooty at 2 pm and reaches Mettupalayam at 5.35 pm.
