Unique campaign to save Rajasthani tradition: In the changing lifestyle of Rajasthan, the traditional turban and dhoti-kurta, which was gradually disappearing, is now getting life again. As part of a unique cultural initiative organized at Azadi Kalan Gram Panchayat of Jhunjhunu district, 21 elders were honored by wearing turbans and traditional costumes, so as to increase pride and connection towards culture among the youth.
Jhunjhunu: In the era of modern fashion, the unique identity of Rajasthan – turban and dhoti – kurta – is decreasing even in rural areas. In view of this concern, the villagers in Azadi Kalan Gram Panchayat of Jhunjhunu district have taken a commendable initiative. A special program was organized at Kesuke Balaji Temple complex with the aim of keeping the culture alive and connecting the youth with their roots. In this, 21 elders of Azadi Kalan and Bas Nanak villages were honored by wearing turbans and gifting them dhoti-kurta.
The special thing about this program was that it was not organized under any family ritual, wedding or religious ritual, but was organized only for the purpose of preservation and revival of Rajasthani culture. The program started in a traditional manner in which the villagers welcomed the elders by applying tilak. After this, when the turban of honor was decorated on the heads of the elders, the entire campus echoed with applause. The villagers present praised this unique innovation and said that such efforts will give new energy to the identity of Rajasthan.
The respected elder Vidhadhar said emotionally
“The real pride of Rajasthan lies in our attire. Turban and dhoti-kurta are symbols of pride. Today’s youth should also adopt them.” He also said that the affection and respect with which he was dressed in traditional attire brought back old memories. The organizers believe that the new generation is getting more attracted towards modern clothing, due to which the cultural heritage of the ancestors is gradually getting lost. If work is not done to revive the tradition in time, then the coming generations may be deprived of their heritage.
Important initiative towards cultural preservation
The villagers expressed hope that if such programs continue to be organised, the cultural costumes will not only survive but will reach the future with pride. A large number of villagers participated in the program with enthusiasm. Everyone was of the opinion that respect and preservation of culture is possible only when the society itself strengthens it. This initiative will prove to be an important step in its direction.
