CM Omar Abdullah On SIR: These days, the Election Commission is running Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in many states to correct the voter list. Through this the voter list is being upgraded. This campaign was also launched in Bihar before the assembly elections. Now there is a strong protest regarding this in West Bengal. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has openly opened the front. Now Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah has said a big thing on SIR.
CM Omar Abdullah On SIR: Although the unity of the opposition India alliance has been exposed on many occasions, but now the opposition has been torn apart on the Special Intensive Review (SIR) being conducted by the Election Commission to upgrade the voter list. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has come out in support of SIR. He said that SIR is not a dangerous thing. Also said that those opposing it should explain to the Election Commission. Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah has also expressed his frank opinion on Electronic Voting Machine (EVM). He said that theft cannot be done through machines. This means that votes cannot be stolen from EVMs. The interesting thing is that the Congress party is completely aggressive against vote theft. This is the same party which supports Omar Abdullah government in Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed his opinion on SIR and EVM. He said, ‘Elections should be clean and no one should have complaints. The Election Commission should see that if some parties are raising questions then it should explain to them that SIR is not a dangerous thing. Even today I do not believe that theft can be done through machines. Yes but elections can definitely be manipulated. Let us tell you that RJD and Congress were the first attackers in Bihar regarding SIR. Voter Adhikar Yatra was also taken out under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi. After that now there is rebellion in West Bengal. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is continuously opposing SIR.
What did they say about college admission?
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday clearly said that admissions in Shri Mata Vaishnodevi Institute of Medical Excellence (SMVDIME) will be done only on the basis of merit. He said that under the Constitution it is not possible to distribute seats on the basis of religion. He told that at the time of opening the medical college, it was decided that admissions would be on the basis of NEET exam. CM said, ‘NEET has only one basis – merit. Giving or stopping a seat to someone on the basis of religion is not possible either in law or in the Constitution. The Chief Minister alleged that now some students taking admission on the basis of NEET are being harassed because of their religion, which is completely wrong. He said that people demanding separate arrangements in colleges on the basis of religion are going against the rules.
Why did they say – government assistance will have to be given up?
CM Abdullah said that if seats are to be distributed on the basis of religion, then first the land given to the university and the government aid received will have to be given up. Only after that the rules can be changed and seats can be kept for any one religion, we will have no objection. On the action of demolishing the journalist’s house, he said that it does not come under my jurisdiction. On the demolition of a journalist’s house in Jammu, he said that this matter does not come within his remit. He said that I had also said in Srinagar, this is not in our hands. Only the officials who have taken this step should be asked. On the poor condition of roads in Pir Panjal region, the Chief Minister said that due to the fast pace of work, the roads are looking bad. Work on widening, four-lane and tunnel projects is going on. Wherever tunnels are being built, there should also be maintenance of existing roads.
