While talking to Local 18, Jalebi artisan Maturam told that he is a resident of Gohana and is working to sell the famous Jalebis of Gohana’s uncle Baljit Singh in the Geeta Mahotsav program. He said that Tau Baljit Singh had started making these big size Jalebis in 1960 and now he is taking the taste of these Jalebis to the people in India. He said that the main objective of making these Jalebis available to the people is that people should not forget this traditional sweet, because it is a sweet which remains edible for a month without any chemicals.
How is the famous Jalebi of Gohana, Haryana made?
Artisan Maturam told that to make this sweet, moong dal, gram dal, urad dal along with flour, gram flour, semolina are used. By grinding all these things well, a khamida i.e. paste is prepared and by making a hole in the cloth, a big size jalebi design is made in desi ghee. When this Jalebi becomes crispy and red, it is soaked in sugar syrup and then this special Jalebi is ready.
Sold at Rs 320 per kg
He told that four jalebis are given in a 1 kg box, which is sold at Rs 320 per kg. He said that he also wants to tell the youth of the new generation that they should definitely taste this Haryanvi sweet once, because all types of people can eat it comfortably. It is worth noting that this Jalebi is quite famous by the name of Matu Ram Halwai.
