Albert Ekka is the only Paramveer Chakra winner from Jharkhand, who martyred in the 1971 war. There has been development in the village named after him, but there is still a lack of basic facilities.
Albert Ekka, the only Paramvir Chakra winner of Jharkhand state, was born on 27 December 1942 in Jari, a small village in Gumla district. The story of Albert Ekka becoming Paramveer Albert Ekka is quite unique. Born in a tribal family, Albert Ekka was fond of hunting since childhood and army job started attracting him. In this way, he was recruited in Bihar Regiment on 27 December 1962 and in 1968 he was transferred from Bihar Regiment to Brigade of Guards.
During the Gangasagar war between India and Pakistan in 1971, he was hit by several bullets in his stomach while fighting Pakistani soldiers. His intestines also came out but he did not lose courage and destroyed the enemy bunker with a grenade and saved the lives of many of his comrades. In this way, he was martyred on 3 December 1971 at the age of just 29. For this he was posthumously awarded Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest military honour. Know how much the picture of his village changed after his departure….
Ancestral village facing the brunt of development
Local Seema Kerketta told Local 18 that our grandfather Paramveer Albert Ekka of Jari village in Gumla district was a soldier of our country. Who sacrificed their lives to serve the country. Martyred in the service of the country on 3 December 1971. Param Vir Chakra was given for his unmatched bravery and courage. But even today his native village has not been developed in the way it should be.
There should be arrangements for education and employment
Although schools, colleges, blocks etc. have been built in his name, many basic facilities are still lacking. The way he risked his life to serve his country. This village could not develop that way. There should be proper arrangements for education for the young men and women here in the village itself. There should be employment arrangements but these are not all the facilities. Even the Anganwadi here has become dilapidated, Anganwadi is running at someone else’s house.
Talking about water, half of the village has water facility and the other half does not have water facility. The road leading to the block is also dilapidated due to which there is a lot of difficulty in commuting. The electricity system is fine but in proper terms the situation is very bad. He is the only Paramveer Chakra winner from our state of Jharkhand, so in its name, a lot of development was to take place, development of all the villages and districts was to take place, but it has not happened in that way. There should be proper arrangements for education, employment and health here.
Lack of electricity and water facilities
Harihar Singh told Local 18 that ours was Albert Ekka of Jari village in Gumla district. Who was martyred while displaying indomitable courage in the war between India and Pakistan in 1971. Due to which he was given Paramvir Chakra posthumously. We are proud that martyr Albert Ekka, the inspiration of our village, has received the Paramvir Chakra. We feel even more proud because the only Paramveer Chakra winner in the whole of Jharkhand is from our village. Due to his indomitable courage and sacrifice, people started knowing our village and otherwise this village was unknown. Due to his sacrifice, our village has also developed a lot. In his name, all the facilities like block police station, zonal block road, culvert, electricity, water etc. are available and the village is still fine.
